In 2006, the Vissman company sold the first of its specially engineered sports vibration therapy devices that employ their patented Focal Mechano-Acoustic Square Wave Vibration Technology, or ViSS® Technology, to significantly reduce muscle pain. Today, PFL sells the latest generation of the original Myomodulator and the larger Evolution.
ViSS® Technology significantly diminishes pain caused by injuries like pulled hamstrings or rotator cuff injuries, diseases such as arthritis, disorders like neuropathy, and common everyday pain such as chronic back pain or pain from stiff joints. Simply put, if you have pain, ViSS® Technology can help.
It generates a vibration that can be strategically focused as it passes through the epidermis and fat tissues to stimulate receptors and nerve fibers, sending consistent physiological information to the central nervous system to reprogram the neuromuscular signal. This initiates an instantaneous response transmitted through the Pacini corpuscle, passing through the motor afferent and sensory afferent pathways to the cerebral cortex to reset and normalize the body's function.
This process prompts the body’s nervous system to reset malfunctioning neurons, giving instructions to heal injuries, correct disorders and alleviate pain in healthy and unhealthy bodies alike.
Yes, there is an abundance of evidence, testimonials from countless pain-free patients, of course, and in the form of more than two dozen peer-reviewed articles in medical journals in Europe where ViSS® Technology has been on the market since 2006.
News reporters aren’t really expected to understand much about the subjects they write about. If they meet their deadlines, they can pretty much write what they please, which today means infotainment, a blend of legitimate new and entertainment. Scientific journals, on the other hand, rely on trust which requires ethical impartiality. The peer-review process is how they establish and safeguard readers’ trust: the claims the authors make must be verified by other professionals who are qualified (e.g., doctors, medical researchers, etc.) and independent (i.e., not on the payroll of anyone with an interest in influencing the reported results). Publication in a peer-reviewed journal means the scientific community has independently verified that the credibility of the research meets scientific standards and has earned its seal of approval.
Depending on the course of treatment you receive, the degree of vibration intensity you feel will vary, but all are quite mild. Since vibration is naturally soothing, the most common response to treatment is an overall sense of relaxation. Indeed, it’s not unusual for people to fall asleep during treatment.
When properly administered, everyone feels a difference in their level of pain after the very first treatment. A “complete treatment” (the period from start of treatment to the point at which treatment for the original purpose is no longer needed) will vary based on the source(s) of the pain, the length of time it has been present, and the skill and experience of the therapist providing the treatment. It's not uncommon to schedule a minimum of 6 sessions, mostly because that's . This is something each person should decide in consultation with the professional providing the treatment.
The short answer is an emphatic yes! There is one exception, a temporary situation which is explained below, but otherwise, yes, this technology is a perfectly safe, non-invasive technology designed to treat pain in any individual, from those with chronic disorders and injuries to the highest performing professional athletes.
The one exception concerns blood clots. If you currently have or have recently had a blood clot, you are advised not to take treatment until that condition is no longer present. Any treatment or activity of any kind which might loosen a blood clot poses a serious risk to your health as that blood clot could then travel to the heart or brain and result in grave injury or death. This is not a warning that is specific to this device, of course, but a general warning to anyone with a blood clot or currently at risk of developing blood clots. If this pertains to you, please seek the advice of the appropriate medical professionals before undergoing treatment with this device. You should make your condition known to anyone offering to treat you with any device using this or any other technology that might cause the movement of a blood clot in your system. Any professional who provides treatment with this device will be aware that failing to warn a potential patient that blood clots are a risk has not met the minimum standards for the proper use of this device as clearly stated by its manufacturer in the warranty provided at the purchase of each device.
The short answer is yes, even if you know only the basics of how the technology works, it is quite difficult even to harm yourself with the device. There is no transdermal application, there is no exchange of fluids of any kind, and the only contact is that of specially fabricated application pads which are made of silicon and rubber materials widely used in medical and other consumer products. The only contact is between the sterile surface of the device—either a transducer pad or a pen—and the skin. As long as the device is used in hygienic conditions, it is safe.
The short answer is no. While it is possible to self-administer certain treatments depending on how the device needs to be positioned on the body, you would need to be well-trained in administering treatments with the device, and your rate of success will be tied to your level of experience.
